Why Spay & Neuter Matters: Protecting Kittens Before Adoption

Every kitten deserves the best possible start in life—and at PUPS (Pets Uniting People Society), our commitment to spay and neuter services is one of the most powerful ways we protect the animals in our care. For rescued kittens, early spay/neuter and wellness care from our partner organizations, LiFeline/Petsmart Partnership, are not optional steps. They are essential safeguards that protect their long-term health, prevent overpopulation, and ensure they enter their forever homes ready to thrive.

Preventing Future Hardship Cases

One unspayed female cat can produce more than 100 kittens in just a few years. Many of these kittens are born into unsafe conditions, with no access to medical care, stability, or human support. For PUPS, stepping into these hardship situations is part of our mission—but reducing the number of animals facing those hardships is a responsibility we take seriously.

By ensuring every kitten in our program is spayed or neutered before adoption, we directly break the cycle of pet overpopulation that often leads to abandonment and suffering.

Better Health, Better Lives

Spay/neuter surgery is one of the most effective ways to protect a kitten’s health. Fixed kittens have:

  • Lower risks of reproductive cancers

  • Reduced chance of infections

  • Better long-term wellness outcomes

  • More predictable and stable temperaments

Pre-adoption surgery also minimizes the stress of undergoing the procedure once they’re settled in a new home. The kittens leave us healthy, confident, and prepared for their next chapter.

A Safer Community for All Animals

When fewer unplanned litters occur, fewer kittens end up on the streets, in unsafe homes, or at overcrowded shelters. Spay and neuter programs are one of the strongest tools communities have to reduce animal suffering and protect public welfare.

At PUPS, we work closely with veterinarians and partner rescues to ensure that each kitten receives full wellness care—including vaccinations, parasite protection, and spay/neuter surgery—before they ever meet their new families.

How You Can Help

PUPS relies on community support to continue offering these life-changing services. Donations to our kitten wellness and spay/neuter program directly fund:

  • Surgery costs

  • Emergency medical care for hardship cases

  • Food, formula, litter, and supplies

Your support ensures that every kitten receives the care they deserve and prevents future animals from facing crisis-level hardship.

If you’d like to be part of a kitten’s rescue journey, consider donating, fostering, or sharing our mission with your community.

Together, we can save lives—one tiny kitten at a time.  Donate Now
